Tennessee Vols football coach Jeremy Pruitt talking about the Auburn Tigers after practice Wednesday leads our Volunteers news for Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018.

We’re near the halfway point of October, and the Tennessee Vols football team hasn’t played a game in this month yet. That’s what happens when your bye week is in the early part of the month and the first day of the month is on a Monday. But the preparation for that game continues.

As we get set to bring you today’s updates on Rocky Top, Jeremy Pruitt talking about Saturday and the state of the program is the focus of the news. With UT facing the Auburn Tigers on Saturday, fans are wondering if the program can turn itself around quickly.

However, we have other news too. One involves a Tennessee legend taking another role, and the other is a recap of an outing that happened Wednesday. So let’s get going, starting with our Tennessee Vols football news.

Jeremy Pruitt speaks after Wednesday practice – Ryan Callahan, GoVols247

Tennessee Vols football head coach Jeremy Pruitt spoke with the media in his regular session Wednesday after practice in preparation for the Auburn Tigers Saturday. Coming off a bye week, the 2-3 team is looking to turn things around on the year. Pruitt gave some interesting tidbits, noting that he’s spending more time with the offense, on Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele bringing him into the college ranks with the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2007, on the lack of depth at safety, and on shuffling around the o-line, particularly Nathan Niehaus getting a shot at right guard while Jerome Carvin takes reps at center. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“It’s good to be back in game week. I think there’s a lot of guys that are excited to play. Having an off week was really good for us, because there’s lots of things that we need to catch up on and we need to improve on. But the excitement about football is playing the games.”"
