Another week is ending which means another Friday for the Vols mailbag. Would Vols fans trade Jarrett Guarantano for Tua Tagovailoa?
It’s Friday, and the Tennessee football team is back in action Saturday after what seemed like an exceedingly long bye week.
The Vols looked much better against Georiga than they did against Florida and West Virginia. This team is improving and we all know it. You’ve said it, we’ve said it, everyone has said it. However, can they continue to improve is the question. We will find out Saturday if they are still heading in the right direction.
On to the mailbag, but first, we know you all have questions, thoughts, and comments. You’re welcome to send them to b.williford14@gmail.com any day during the week to be answered in the Friday mailbag.
Trey H writes…Let’s pretend college’s get the opportunity to make one trade a year. Yes, I know that would create a lot of problems that we could talk about for months. But, let’s simplify this, if you were Jeremy Pruitt would you trade Jarrett Guarantano for Tua Tagovailoa?
How fascinating would this be in the college football world? What would Jeremy Pruitt do in this situation? Would there be any loyalty when it comes to seniors?
Before I answer your question, let me say I think the Vols would still be 2-3 if Tua Tagovailoa were the quarterback. Even though his stats are some of the best I’ve seen, even with his limited playing time.
Tua has completed 76 of his passes on 101 attempts. He has thrown for 1,495 yards with 18 touchdowns and zero interceptions. I’ll repeat, 18 touchdowns with zero interceptions. That’s not even the most impressive stat about his performance this season.
He has 18 touchdowns to only 25 completions. That’s outstanding.
So, yes I think Pruitt would gladly take Tagovailoa, but I don’t think he would have the same stats if he played for Tennessee. It’s tough to determine just how good he would be in the orange and white.
Kaiden B writes…Do you think Pruitt will get his first big win this season? The games you have to pick from are Auburn, Alabama, South Carolina, and Kentucky.
Well, you can take Alabama off the list. There is no chance the Vols are beating the Crimson Tide. I’ll give Tennessee a zero percent chance to beat Alabama.
I’m not confident that Auburn is the team the Vols will beat from this list either. If the Tigers struggle to score the football as they have, Tennessee has a chance. However, I’m not ready to put my money on the line.
That leaves South Carolina and Kentucky. Believe it or not, I think the Vols could win both of those games. South Carolina doesn’t appear to be that good, and Kentucky will more than likely be Kentucky later on in the season. However, I wouldn’t count South Carolin or Kentucky as a big win.
DJ T writes…My wife is putting a limit on how many games I can attend each year, and I don’t think that’s right. A little background here. My family has season tickets, we have six altogether, and we have surprising have done a great job at being fair about ticket use. However, I recently got married over the summer, and now my wife is putting a limit on my games.
I went to the Florida beatdown, well at least till halftime. But, now she is saying I can only go to one more game this season and from here on out just one a year. Is this fair? Are we going to have marital problems?
This is a big problem DJ, a big, big problem. It makes it worse that your family has the season tickets and your wife doesn’t want you to go.
Doesn’t she know that Tennessee has one of the best fan bases in the nation and it is rather important that don’t lose any of their faithful fans?
These are troubling times for the football program. It has been ten years since the Vols have been relevant. I would imagine a lot of fans don’t care as much now as the used to, since cheering for a losing program isn’t fun.
However, I’m not necessarily blaming your wife. You had to know you give up things when you get married. It just so happens yours is Tennessee football.
Steve S writes…Longtime Tennessee Vols fan and always will be. But I have to admit that I have grown to cheer for the Crimson Tide because my wife is from Alabama. I know, I’m a hated man around these parts.
Alabama recently announced they are bringing back “Dixieland Delight” to their football games. I couldn’t be more excited about this; it’s such a great tradition. It got me thinking, what could the Vols play before the fourth quarter?
I’m not even an Alabama fan, and I love when that play that song during football games. It’s a pretty good scene to see.
As far as Tennessee, I honestly don’t have an answer. One quick fix is to play a different song when the defense is getting ready for a third down stop.
The Vols could get Justin Timberlake being from Memphis and incorporate his music with something Dolly Parton. Nothing the Vols come up with is going to be anywhere close to as good as Dixieland Delight.
