Tennessee football had some clear units stand out in their 30-24 victory over the Auburn Tigers. Here are the Volunteers’ grades from the game.

Was it a miracle? Should some higher power get the highest grade for the stunning Tennessee football win at the Auburn Tigers Saturday? Well, it actually wasn’t. The Vols simply had some specific units step up and play amazing.

A lot of what we expected at the beginning of the year finally began to show itself. Things we knew were the strengths of this team and could help them pull off upsets finally did help them pull off an upset.

Jeremy Pruitt, his staff and his players maximized their strengths. As a result, Tennessee football pulled off what was undoubtedly the biggest win of the season for far and, obviously, Pruitt’s head coaching career.

As we get set to give out our report card for the different Vols units from the game, you can bet that the grades will be far superior to what they have been in the past. However, not every unit is going to get praise.

There are still issues at different spots, and we can’t ignore them. These were weaknesses we knew existed, but we have to call them out nonetheless. That’s the purpose of these report cards. You give out the good grades to the units who perform well.

The one good thing, as you’ll see, is that even the units that struggled were ones we thought might struggle at the beginning of the year. However, we also thought the Vols could overcome them with potential strengths. And Saturday showed that is definitely the case.

This is actually the biggest overall takeaway from the game. UT can’t compete for a championship this year and will likely lose a few more games. But they are capable of using the best parts about their team to pull off some wins.

That’s exactly what they did on Saturday. So which units are we talking about in terms of strengths and weaknesses? Who are the guys that Saturday’s game showed could carry the team. Find out with our Tennessee football report card following the Vols’ 30-24 win over the Auburn Tigers on the road.
