After upsetting the Auburn Tigers, the Tennessee Volunteers finally took a major jump in our SEC Power Rankings following Week 7 of the 2018 season.

Talk about a crazy amount of movement in our SEC Power Rankings! As a Vols blog, doing these has been uneventful for a year now because Tennessee football was stuck at the bottom. But after a huge win on Saturday, they finally got to bring some excitement by moving up.

That is one part everybody knows. But it’s not the only thing that happened in the conference over the weekend. There were lots of close games and a couple of major upsets that completely shook up the foundation of the conference.

While one clear team remains at the top, everybody else is fighting for position. And as we get set to bring you this week’s SEC Power Rankings, the beautiful thing is that we can still use circular logic to sort everybody out.

Doing that more than halfway through the season is insane, but it’s what we’re going to do. After all, wins, schedule strength and head to head all take MAJOR precedence over margin of victory, even in power rankings.

As a result, some major wins may not be as impressive as you think. Or the circular logic of head to head just kept them from moving too far up. There is a clear bottom tier and a clear top and second tier in the league right now, but where everybody stands remains a major point of debate.

This week, with four teams on bye weeks and no match-ups between teams in the same tier, it’s unlikely that much will change either. So fans will get to be frustrated with where we stacked teams up for two weeks.

Who are these teams we’re referring to? What did last weekends games do looking at the overall scope of the conference. Let’s take a look here with our SEC Power Rankings following Week 7 of the 2018 college football season.
