Tennessee football’s win over the Auburn Tigers ended a ton of losing streaks. Here are 15 streaks the Volunteers ended with their significant upset.

As a program that has struggled at unprecedented levels over the past 10 years, beating the Auburn Tigers on Saturday was significant for Tennessee football. Dating back to the start of this century, the Vols have been on slides that they were not able to break.

But the win at Jordan-Hare ended a ton of them. Sure, many only date back to the middle of 2016, the last time the Vols did anything significant. But with a horrible end to that season and a horrible 2017 combined with a rough start to this year, there were numerous losing streaks that began from there.

So with this win, Tennessee football ended what you could really consider over 20 streaks. But they date back to 15 different games, as some of them overlap in pretty obvious ways. That’s still an amazing number.

In this post, we’re going to look at all of those losing streaks. The ones that date back to the same game will just count as one losing streak, as they are super similar in many ways. But overall, this will show how significant the win over Auburn was on Saturday.

Four of these streaks are one to two years old. But the overwhelming majority of them aren’t even from this decade. A few, as we mentioned, is not even of this century. So yes, this win was a long time coming.

For a point of order, we will ignore losing streaks that aren’t at least five games. This includes the Vols’ two-game losing streak to the Auburn Tigers on the road, three away from home, that dates back to 1998, and the two-game losing streak they were on before the game. There are too many other significant streaks these guys ended.

What it shows is that even with the two successful 9-4 seasons under Butch Jones, the Vols weren’t able to end everything that was an issue with the program during that time. Jeremy Pruitt was able to take step towards that his first year as head coach.

Let’s go ahead and break down how major this win was. Ahead of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Rocky Top has to relish this win just a bit longer. These are the 15 notable losing streaks Tennessee football ended by beating the Auburn Tigers.
