No.1 – Tua Tagovailoa, Quarterback

The obvious choice for our number one ranking is starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.  What he is doing on the football field this season is unheard of. And, to beat it all he is putting up these impressive numbers by only playing in the first half.

Tagovailoa currently ranks third in the SEC with1,760 passing yards. The only two quarterbacks with more yards are Ole Miss Jordan Ta’amu (2,298) and Texas A&M Kellen Mond (1,800).

Here is what is so impressive about those numbers, Tagovailoa hasn’t attempted nearly as many passing attempts as the other two quarterbacks. Ta’amu has attempted 222 passes, and Mond has attempted 214, while Tua has only attempted 123, which ranks near the bottom of the conference.

He leads the league in completion percentage at 71.65 percent with 21 passing touchdowns and zero interceptions. I’ll repeat, 21 touchdowns with zero interceptions.

His level of play is off the charts and is something special. I can’t even imagine what his number would look like with the same amount of attempts of Ta’amu. Okay, actually I can, I did the math.

Tua is averaging 14.31 yards per attempt. Multiple that by 99 – how many pass attempts he needs to match Ta’amu – and he would have 3,177 passing yards halfway through the season. That would be 878 more than the second most in the SEC.

Tua is too good to stop, the Vols only hope is to slow him down. However, Tua has only thrown two interceptions during his time with Alabama and one of them was a ppick-sixto the Vols.
