Tennessee Vols quarterback Jarrett Guarantano continuing to receive tons of national respect leads our Volunteers news for Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018.

This may be a Hump Day the Tennessee Vols don’t want to get over. After all, it means they have to start looking ahead to this weekend and stop relishing in the upset over the Auburn Tigers from last weekend. Well, there’s still a bit of relishing in our news reports.

Our Wednesday, Oct. 17 update on Rocky Top for 2018 involves another award for a Vol after the team’s play last week. But then, yes, it does move onto other things. Part of those other things include a look ahead to this week’s game and football’s preparation for it.

But we have some other sports to bring you, including a preview for women’s basketball. And there are awards in other sports, such as cross country, along with a women’s golf recap. So there’s plenty of Tennessee Vols athletics news. Let’s start with the football stuff.

Practice ahead of Alabama continues – Ryan Callahan, GoVols247

The Tennessee Vols have to put the Auburn win behind them and fully focus on the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide now. They practiced Tuesday, and the media got to hear from some players. Notably Trey Smith called Tennessee-Alabama his favorite rivalry game because he always grew up loving Alabama and debated whether or not to go there or UT when he committed in 2017.

"Two periods of Tennessee’s practice Tuesday at Haslam Field were open to media. The Vols practiced in light rain during the early portion of the practice, which featured some routes-on-air passing drills for the Vols’ wide receivers and quarterbacks while their offensive linemen worked on blocking assignments and techniques."
