The Tennessee Vols still preparing for Alabama in football leads our Volunteers news along with basketball SEC Media Day for Thursday, October 18, 2018.

Alabama hate week continues for the Tennessee Vols, but the excitement over basketball is beginning too with the sport’s SEC Media Day taking place on Wednesday. We have coverage of both to bring you for today.

Our morning updates on Rocky Top involve a heavy focus on football and men’s basketball. It’s about to be that time of year where both are in season. However, there is also news surrounding numerous other sports.

That includes a scheduled match for tonight and a recap of specific Vols in other sports. We’ll get to all of that. But let’s start with Tennessee football preparing for the Alabama Crimson Tide with another practice Wednesday.

Pruitt speaks after Wednesday practice ahead of Alabama – Patrick Brown, GoVols247

Tennessee Vols football head coach Jeremy Pruitt once again spoke to the media Wednesday afternoon after another practice three days ahead of his team’s match-up with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Pruitt addressed some personnel issues, including JJ Peterson moving to outside linebacker and the fact that if needed, despite being hurt, Riley Locklear could play. He said Jahmir Johnson, Dominick Wood-Anderson and Micah Abrenathy are all working to get ready to play but, given their injuries, did not say if they would be available Saturday. Here’s a bit of what else he said.

"“I think our guys are excited about this week. It’s a great opportunity. You don’t get probably but one chance in a season to play the team considered the best team in the country, and I think these guys (Alabama) probably are.”"

Vols picked second in SEC; Schofield, Williams All-SEC – SECSports

The Men’s Tennessee Vols basketball team was picked to finish second to the Kentucky Wildcats this year. Meanwhile, Grant Williams was the projected SEC Player of the Year. Williams was first-team All-SEC, and his teammate, Admiral Schofield, was second-team All-SEC.

"The 2018-19 campaign begins November 6, with conference play set to begin January 5. The 2019 SEC Tournament will be March 13-17 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn."

Admiral Schofield on Julius Erving Award Watch List – Hoophall Awards

In addition to making preseason second-team All-SEC, Tennessee Vols men’s basketball senior Admiral Schofield is on the Julius Erving Award Watch List. Schofield is one of 20 players on the list for the award, which goes to the top small forward in the game.

"Julius Erving could jump, run, shoot, score, dunk, play defense, rebound, and fill arena seats everywhere he played.…His unique athleticism coupled with his star power made Dr. J a household name worldwide."

Tennessee soccer’s Bunny Shaw leads Jamaica to World Cup – Anne Peterson, AP Sports

Tennessee Lady Vols senior Khadija Shaw helped the Jamaica Women’s National team reach their first ever Women’s World Cup, as they defeated Panama 4-2 on penalty kicks Wednesday evening. The penalty kicks came after a 2-2 tie, which was thanks in large part to a goal from Shaw herselft in the 13th minute.

"Shaw, who is a senior forward for Tennessee and is known by her nickname Bunny, has scored 13 goals in her last 12 national team matches. Jody Brown, who is just 16, scored a hat trick in the group stage."

Tennessee soccer to host LSU – UTSports

After helping Jamaica to the Women’s World Cup, Khadija Shaw should be back in Knoxville to help the No. 18 Tennessee Lady Vols as they host the LSU Tigers Thursday night. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.

"Thursday’s matchup will be broadcast on SEC Network , available online and through the WatchESPN app. Live stats will also be provided via SIDEARM Stats."

Two Vols golfers compete at TVA Credit Union Invite – UTSports

Tennessee Vols men’s golf junior Nolan Ray and sophomore Sean Wilcox competed at the TVA Credit Union Invite this week. Wilcox tied for 41st place by shooting 14 above Par, and Ray tied for 19th place by shooting 4 above Par.

"Ray, who was participating in his second tournament of the fall season, spent all three rounds inside of the top 20. After the first round, the Brentwood, Tenn. native was tied for 12th with an opening round of 72 (E)."
