Tennessee football at South Carolina: 5 Vols to watch for vs. Gamecocks
Tennessee football travels to Columbia at 3-4 to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks. Here are five Volunteers to watch for against USC.
It’s round 7 for Tennessee football and Will Muschamp. Going 0-6 against a coach who’s dealt with so many issues at two different programs is pretty embarrassing, but that’s what happens when Butch Jones runs your program.
Anyway, with a new era underway, the Vols are turning to another former Nick Saban defensive coordinator to lead them against Muschamp this time. Jeremy Pruitt will travel to Columbia to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks Saturday, and he’s got a team looking to have a strong finish to the season his first year on Rocky Top.
With Tennessee football at 3-4 and South Carolina at 3-3, it’s safe to say this is a crucial game for both teams. A win for the Vols would give them a heck of a lot of house money down the stretch of the season, and a loss for USC would put them in serious trouble relative to their goals to start the year.
If UT is going to pull off its second huge road win in three weeks, though, they are going to need key players to step up. South Carolina has not always looked like a Muschamp-coached team this year, getting roped into a couple of shootouts. But at the same time, they have also had their typical defensive slugfest.
In the process, there are key trends that show how you can beat these guys. And they are beatable. Remember, they could be 2-4 right now if not for one crazy flood that delivered them a win over the Missouri Tigers.
So can Pruitt and co. follow up and take advantage? Perhaps they can, but it will take a collection of key guys. Let’s break them down here. These are the five Tennessee football players who will be critical against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
