A lot has happened since the upset win against the Auburn Tigers. Alabama came to Knoxville and absolutely beatdown the Vols. The game was basically over before it started with the Tide up by 14 within the first five minutes of the game.
Starting quarterback went out of the Alabama game with an injury to his collarbone. However, it doesn’t appear to be a lingering injury because he is expected to play against Gamecocks.
There was more awful news from the football program. Trey Smith – arguably the best offensive line on the team- is out for the rest of the season. It will be interesting to see just how much that affect the Vols’ offensive line play
Ty Chandler is coming off a three-game span where he has scored a receiving touchdown in each game. He became the first running back in Tennessee football history is accomplish such a feat.

The Gamecocks aren’t having the season most thought they would have. They are 3-3 on the season and have no chance to win the SEC East. The running game is struggling, the passing attack isn’t as dynamic, and quarterback Jake Bentley is turning the ball over too much.
On the season, Jake Bentley has thrown seven interceptions to just ten touchdowns. He hasn’t played horrible, but he certainly has too much talent to know be playing better. It’s not all Bentley fault but the Gamecocks rank last in the SEC in turnover margin.
The running backs aren’t helping the offense much. They rank near the bottom of the SEC in rushing yards and yards per carry. Moreover, they rank last in the SEC in rushing touchdowns.

Earlier in the week, I predicted South Carolina would win the game 21-17. While I’m still not comfortable with picking the Vols because there are so many unknowns I like them to keep it a little closer. The deciding factor for me is the Gamecocks are coming off a bye week. South Carolina 21 Tennessee 20.
