Tennessee football will be looking for its fourth win of the season against the Charlotte 49ers. Here are five Volunteers to watch for in the game.

Finally, Tennessee football gets a breather. Well, they hope it’s a breather. The Vols get to host the Charlotte 49ers this year for homecoming. At 3-5 and 1-4 in the SEC, this is the game they need to welcome their alumni back during Jeremy Pruitt’s first season.

However, this is no walk in the park for sure. The Vols aren’t facing the same Charlotte team that went 1-11 last year. These guys are 4-4 this season and potentially looking at a bowl berth, their first in school history.

If Tennessee football is going to hold off Brad Lambert’s team, which is making tremendous strides as a program in their fourth year in FBS and sixth year of playing football overall, they’re going to have to see some of their top players step up. Yes, it seems crazy, but they can’t take this game lightly.

A win on Saturday would be the second best win of the season for the Vols and for Pruitt in his career as head coach. And anybody who takes it lightly should remember what happened to Nick Saban’s first Alabama Crimson Tide team in 2007 when they lost to the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks, or his first LSU Tigers team in 2000 that lost to the UAB Blazers.

This stuff happens, and it can happen Saturday. The Vols will likely want to pull their main players to get a much-needed breather ahead of their final stretch run in SEC play. But to do that, some of those players need to step up and make sure to put this game out of reach.

Let’s take a look at who those specific players are and why they are needed for this game. These are the five Tennessee football players to watch for during the Vols’ homecoming game against the Charlotte 49ers.
