Tennessee football had a lot of units play miserably in their 14-3 win over the Charlotte 49ers. Here are the Volunteers grades from the game.

When you only win your homecoming game against an average Group of Five team by 11 points, you clearly have some issues. That is the case for numerous Tennessee football units, and it’s one we clearly can’t ignore.

However, even in a game like that, there are groups who deserve some credit. A 14-3 win for the Vols makes it pretty clear which side of the ball the positives were on, but there were lots of areas worthy of respect.

And yes, there were plenty of areas worthy of blame. Tennessee football has some blatant issues that it needs to work out, and they were put on full display in Saturday’s win. It was an embarrassing way to welcome the alumni back during homecoming weekend.

But no matter. We’ll make sure to call out all the issues on the Vols following Saturday’s game in our report card here. The fact of the matter is we know where they are, and they deserve every bit of ridicule.

Some players have no business looking the way they look playing for a Power Five team. Meanwhile, others deserve sympathy for having to be stuck with this program. We’ll make sure to distinguish between all of them.

After all, there’s no denying that the Vols have a wide range of competency right now among players and maybe even among coaches. We’ll be able to break all of that down, and each unit now deserves excruciating analysis.

That’s because Jeremy Pruitt’s team leaves that hideous win with three games left at 4-5, underdogs in all of them, and needing to win two of them to get to a bowl game. It’s crunch time for Rocky Top.

In the process, we need to take a look at which units are on the path to getting the team there. And that starts with the previous game’s grades. So here is the Tennessee football report card following the Vols’ 14-3 win over the Charlotte 49ers.
