Coming off a bye week, these guys blew a chance at a huge upset to prove their worth. The Ole Miss Rebels were facing a South Carolina Gamecocks team that had to squeak by the previous week against the Tennessee Vols. This was their chance at a huge home SEC win.

Instead, Matt Luke’s team once again failed to play defense. Even Will Muschamp was able to put up 38 on the Rebels. Make no mistake, this was not a good loss. Ole Miss squandered a huge opportunity here.

Now, we still bumped them up a couple of spots in our SEC Power Rankings. That’s because one team didn’t play while another looked horrible in its win. But this could all change very quickly in a short amount of time. Luke’s kids don’t have the easiest road to close out the season, even if they do need just one win to reach a bowl game.

Still left on the Rebels’ schedule is a home game against Mississippi State Bulldogs to close out the season, which could definitely be a loss. In fact, their most likely win the rest of the way is a road trip to the Vanderbilt Commodores. But they have a huge opportunity this week against the next team in our SEC Power Rankings to make up for what just happened.
