The Tennessee football team host the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday at Neyland Stadium. Here are five Wildcats to watch during the game.
It’s not every day that the Kentucky Wildcats football team is favored over Tennessee, especially in Neyland Stadium. There’s honestly no telling the last time that was the chance. Should we be surprised? Kentucky is 7-2 on the season and had an opportunity to play in Atlanta for an SEC Championship.
The line started at Kentucky -3.5, however with all the money pouring in on the Cats, the line has moved to Kentucky -6.5. Tennessee really isn’t getting any credit, and they are the home team.
A home team that hasn’t lost to Kentucky in Neyland Stadium since 1984. A home team that hasn’t dropped back-to-back games against the Cats since the 1976 and 1977 seasons. Yet, most don’t give Jeremy Pruitt and the Vols much chance to “pull the upset.”
It’s hard to fathom Tennessee beating Kentucky in football is considered an upset, but it would be. The Cats are ranked 11th in the nation and is having on of their best seasons in the history of the football program. However, one has to question, how good are they?
They have a very experienced team, but it appears that a couple of breaks throughout the season has placed them second in the SEC East standings. They caught Florida missing some key pieces, not to mention it was Dan Mullen’s second game of the season. They should have dropped the game against the Missouri Tigers two weeks ago, but a come of calls went the way of the Wildcats to help them to a win.
Tennessee, on the other hand, is 4-5 on the season and needs at least two more wins to compete in a bowl game. The problem is the last three games aren’t cupcakes and Kentucky might be the best of the three.
As always in this post, we break down five players to watch during the game on Saturday. We all know about the struggles Kentucky has on offense, so can the Vols slow running back Benny Snell down enough to win the game? Can they make quarterback Terry Wilson beat them? I think Kentucky is getting too much credit and the game will be much closer than people think. We start our slideshow with defensive back Derrick Baity Jr.
