Tennessee basketball: Vols’ individual goals for the 2018-19 season
Grant Williams – Average 18 points per game
I think it’s reasonable for Grant Williams to have the goal to win SEC Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. Winning for the second straight year isn’t common. We’ve talked about it before but the last time it happened was when Arkansas’ Corliss Williamson.
The last time a Tennesse player accomplish the feat was Dale Ellis back in the early 80’s. It’s hard not to think Williams can’t do it because he certainly can. Rick Barnes demands greatness from his junior forward and most of the time that’s what he gets.
However, I didn’t want to use the same goal for two players, so Williams goal is to average 18 points a game. I know what you’re thinking, “if he can average 18 a game, he surely gets voted SEC Player of the Year again, right?”
I think so, I don’t know how Williams doesn’t win if he scores 18 points per game, Admiral or someone else in the league would have to average 20 or more, and even that might not be enough.
In the first game against Lenior-Rhyne, Williams was just okay scoring 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting. However, Williams didn’t have to be great for the Vols to get the win. The SEC is much better this season, and the nonconference schedule looks challenging. Williams will have to play well for the Vols to have a great season.
