Tennessee football’s 24-7 win over the Kentucky Wildcats involved numerous positions stepping up. Here are the overall grades for the Volunteers.
It’s supposed to be a down season for Tennessee football, but the Vols have now scored two victories over Top 25 teams on the season. Their 24-7 win over the Kentucky Wildcats was incredibly impressive and showed a program really moving in the right direction under Jeremy Pruitt.
The news of the day, though, was just how well the entire unit played on Saturday. Now, to be fair, the Vols were going against a one-dimensional offense. So under the leadership of a head coach who once was named the nation’s top assistant coach for his defensive abilities, that was naturally going to play into his hands.
However, Tennessee football was facing a team that was 7-2, in the Top 25, and had just played for the SEC East crown a week before. So make no mistake about it, this was an impressive win all the way around.
It’s hard to pinpoint which units were the best in the game, and it’s going to be hard to be critical of a lot of them. But as we get set to give out our report card for the Vols after Saturday, it’s safe to say these will be among the best overall marks we’ve given out all year.
Grading Rocky Top has been difficult at times, and having to be so critical can make it even rougher. But after Saturday’s game, lots of different units have a ton to be proud of. So it’ll be a lot easier to dish out so much praise.
But who gets the most praise? And where, if at all, do we dish out some of the criticism? It wasn’t completely perfect. Well, let’s break all that down here. This is our Tennessee football report card following the Vols’ 24-7 win over the Kentucky Wildcats.
