Tennessee Vols basketball coach Rick Barnes speaking after beating Georgia Tech leads our Volunteers news for Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018.

We’re in the midst of a thrilling November right now with lots of things happening for the Tennessee Vols, and you saw more of that Tuesday night. A major game for basketball was the storyline, but preparations for a football game this Saturday continue.

As we get set to bring you today’s updates on Rocky Top, we have press conference quotes from the men’s basketball game last night to bring you. There’s not a lot on the front when it comes to football preparation, but there is a bit of national recognition for Jeremy Pruitt to discuss.

We also have a Lady Vols game to preview that’s taking place tonight. Simply put, all three major sports have big things happening right now, and in rare form, we’ll start this day off with the men’s basketball program.

Rick Barnes after sloppy win vs. Georgia Tech – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

The No. 5 ranked Tennessee Vols men’s basketball head coach Rick Barnes spoke Tuesday after his team won an ugly game over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 66-53. Grant Williams led the team with 22 points, and Jordan Bone added 14, but overall, the offense had some issues, and Barnes noted that. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“I didn’t think our offensive execution was very good, other than the fact we were getting fouled, but we didn’t capitalize there. It made it tougher to move and guys started holding the ball, but when you look at what we did defensively, sometimes you just have to find a way to grind it out defensively and that’s what we did tonight.”"

Jeremy Pruitt named Coach of the Week – The Dodd Trophy online

Tennessee Vols football head coach Jeremy Pruitt was named the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week after leading his team to their second win over a ranked team this year with a 24-7 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats. At 5-5 in his first year, Pruitt is beginning to generate coach of the year talk around the SEC.

"With the win, Pruitt became the only current SEC head coach to have two wins over ranked opponents in his first regular season leading the team. The win against Kentucky was Tennessee’s first regular season win over a team ranked in the top 15 since 2013, when the Volunteers defeated No. 11 South Carolina. Tennessee held No. 11 Kentucky scoreless in the first half of Saturday’s game, marking the first time since Sept. 10, 2016 that a Kentucky team was held to zero points in the first half."

Lady Vols to face UNC Asheville – UTSports

The No. 12 ranked Tennessee Lady Vols will host the UNC Asheville Bulldogs Wednesday night for their second game of the season. Coming off a season-opening 97-49 win over Presbyterian, this is their second of three games in eight days as well. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

"This marks the first meeting between these programs, but UT has played closed scrimmages (vs. NC State in 2017 and Duke in 2018) on UNCA’s court in Kimmel Arena the past two years. After Wednesday’s match-up, the Lady Vols will turn their attention to a 2 p.m. Sunday home tilt vs. the Florida A&M Rattlers."
