If Jarrett Guarantano starts, Tennessee football could be in decent shape because he doesn’t throw too many interceptions. But that won’t stop Joejuan Williams from being an impact player at cornerback for the Vanderbilt Commodores.

It’s clear that the Vols need to get their passing game going. That’s been their formula for winning this season, and even if the run game matters, they need to convert on some deep balls to win in Nashville. With Marquez Callaway banged up, the Vols will likely have to target Williams more than they want to. And that could be a problem.

For the year, the junior cornerback has four interceptions. He also has nine pass deflections, and just to add to his stat line a bit, he’s got 54 tackles and two tackles for losses. So the guy is athletic and plays physical as well.

Tyson Helton will have his hands full already trying to avoid big plays from linebackers, but when he’s limited on his options at receiver and Vanderbilt has an elite cornerback, things get that much harder. That’s a task that will be facing him and Jeremy Pruitt on Saturday, and Williams is a guy they will have to deal with. So watch out for what happens here.
