Tennessee Volunteers at Vanderbilt Commodores

Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt to make a bowl game is something that is becoming a trend. Crazy to think about because the Vols have owned this rivalry, however, it’s been the Commodores in recent seasons that have been the best team.

I said the Vols would finish 7-6 on the season and that’s still doable but they have to beat Vanderbilt. I believe they can do it. The Commodores defense isn’t playing great and the offense is going to light the world on fire.

So it comes down to this. Tennessee football has to find a way to beat the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville in order to reach a bowl game Jeremy Pruitt’s first year. And Vandy has to win for bowl eligibility as well. The rivalry has never meant more in the modern age of our sport. Who would’ve ever thought that would be the case?

I’ve read the Vols right the past two weeks. This week, I’m going with them to pull off the win. Being underdogs at Vanderbilt should motivate them enough to control the game. Their front seven has the chance to blow up Vanderbilt’s offensive line, and the running game favors Tennessee football just a little bit more. Those two things should be the difference. UT wins, and the game hits the under because they do it by controlling the clock, regardless of who starts at quarterback.

Tennessee has been Vanderbilt’s little brother for four out of the last six years. As a Tennessee fan, this is something that I have come accustomed to. But it’s definitely something that I shouldn’t be accustomed to. Last week against Missouri, the Vols flat out gave up. They had no fight in them after halftime. As a result, they’re playing for their season in this game right here. Meanwhile for Vanderbilt, they have been on a roll lately getting a huge win over Ole Miss last week. They will have a lot of momentum coming out and playing this game.

If there is one thing being a Tennessee fan I know better not to do is get my hopes up that the Vols came somehow pull off a victory in this game in a must win game. There have been several times the Vols have been in that position during my life and they would have me have my hopes up to then only end up me being disappointed because they either choked a game away or lost a game they shouldn’t have. So for that very reason, I have to pick Vanderbilt to win this game. Until Tennessee does something different, I’m not getting my hopes up over this team. Vanderbilt wins in the most Tennessee way possible.
