The Tennessee football team gets embarrassed for the second straight week. Here is how the Vanderbilt game broke down by the numbers.

It’s not like everyone expected Tennessee to beat Vanderbilt but no one thought they would get embarrassed for the third consecutive year. The Vols didn’t belong on the same field with the Commodores, that’s how bad the 38-13 loss looked.

This game was Vanderbilt’s fifth win in the past seven games against the Vols. The Commodores past five wins against Tennessee have been by a combined 81 points. At least if you’re Jeremy Pruitt, there is nowhere to go but up because again the Vols are the worst team in the SEC East.

It was the absolute worst way to end a season especially with a bowl game on the line. Here is how the game broke down by the numbers.

367- passing yards from Kyle Shurmur. He’s without a doubt an NFL quarterback if anything a team should sign him just off of his performances against the Vols throughout his career.

139- passing yards from Jarrett Guarantano. As far as yards go this was Guarantano’s second-worst game of the season if don’t count the last game against Missouri.

93- receiving yards from Vandy’s freshman wide receiver C.J. Bolar. In typical Tennessee fashion, Bolar had a career day against the Vols with six receptions for 93 yards which led both teams.

6- losses by 20 points or more. With the blowout loss to Vanderbilt, Tennessee lost six of their seven games by 20 points or more. Talent or not, it was really surprising Jeremy Pruitt couldn’t get his team to play with more passion than that.

7- carries for Vols’ running back Ty Chandler. Only seven carries is all Chandler got. I know the Vols were trailing most of the game but you have to find plays to get one of your best playmakers the ball.

5- out of seven wins for Vanderbilt against the Vols. That’s right, the Commodores have won five of the past seven games. You have to go back to the 1920s to find a time Vandy won that many games in seven years.

4- incompletions for Vanderbilt’s quarterback Kyle Shurmur. He started the game 15-for-15 before his first incompletion. He totally dominated the Volunteers.

3- wins in a row for the Vanderbilt Commodores against the Tennessee Volunteers. I honestly never thought I would see the day Tennessee lost to Vandy three straight years. There was a period in my life where I wasn’t sure Vanderbilt could even beat the Vols.

I’m sure you’ve seen this stat already, and I don’t mean to rub it in. However, you have to go all the way back to the 1920s to find a three-game winning streak for the Commodores.

I wrote it yesterday; it was a horrible ending to a mediocre season. Everything about this game was depressing for Volnation including how it broke down by the numbers. The sad truth is, it might not get any better next season either.
