Tennessee football’s 5-7 season in 2018 didn’t come without a lot of guys who played their hearts out. Here are the top 10 Volunteers players from the year.

It’s hard to find many positives for Tennessee football when they just suffered their sixth losing season of the decade. How many players can you praise on a team like that when they are part of one of the top 10 winningest programs in NCAA history?

Well, we knew going into the year that the Vols would have their hands full. And despite showing some promise at different points throughout the season, they simply did not have enough to be able to compete consistently down the stretch.

However, there were some players who never stopped fighting. After handing out Smokey Points throughout the year, that’s pretty clear to many of our readers. Tennessee football has a lot of work to do to shore up its roster, but quite a few Vols players weren’t the problem.

In this post, we’re going to take a look at those guys. You could maybe consider this our final round of Smokey Points. It’s nothing special. We’re just looking at the 10 best players on this year’s team. These guys stood out despite the issues facing the program.

Doing this list is actually a bit depressing because some of the guys on here fought as hard as they could for the program. They just didn’t have enough players doing the right things with them, as Jeremy Pruitt said at times throughout the season.

We based these rankings on stat lines and consistent play. None of these guys were the reasons for this team’s struggles in 2018. They kept the program in the running to make a bowl game until the very end.

This is especially true of the top 5 players, as you’ll see in the rankings. So let’s go ahead and name the guys who stood out on a bad team. These are the top 10 Vols from the 2018 Tennessee football season.
