The Tennessee Vols football search for an offensive coordinator and basketball rankings and awards lead our Volunteers news for Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018.

They wouldn’t be the Tennessee Vols if their biggest football news didn’t come right after the season ended. Such is the case for the program now, and it’s obviously going to lead our morning report for today.

As we get set to bring you our updates on Rocky Top, we’re obviously talking about another coaching change in the football program. There seems to be one somewhere on a yearly basis at this point.

However, there is other news to cover as well. We have plenty of basketball updates to bring you in light of the team’s return from the preseason NIT, and there is also some recognition for an athlete in another sport. But let’s start with the big football news.

Vols to replace Tyson Helton – Bret Hubbs and Austin Price, Volquest.com

The Tennessee Vols football team is on the hunt for a new offensive coordinator. Tyson Helton accepted the head coaching job with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers after just one year with Jeremy Pruitt on Rocky Top. This mark’s the fifth straight offseason in which the program is replacing at least one of its coordinators. Helton was offensive coordinator for Jeff Brohm at Western Kentucky in 2014 and 2015. Replacement candidates named have included Chip Lindsey and Hugh Freeze.

"Helton leaves a Tennessee deal that has two years left on it with a salary at $1.2 million annually. Tennessee has placed a quality control coach on the recruiting road in Helton’s place."

Tennessee basketball drops in rankings – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

The Tennessee Vols men’s basketball team remained in the Top 10 after a close loss to the Kansas Jayhawks in the preseason NIT last week, but they dropped in both polls. They fell one spot to No. 6 in the AP Poll and two spots to No. 7 in the Coaches Poll.

"The Jayhawks stayed at No. 2 in both polls after Gonzaga jumped over them following the upset of the previous No. 1, Duke, last week in Maui. The Vols (4-1) have a date with the top-ranked Zags on Dec. 9 in Phoenix, headlining the Jerry Colangelo Classic. They’re back at home against Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday (6:30 p.m. Eastern Time; TV: SEC Network) and host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday."

Grant Williams named SEC Player of the Week – SECSports

Tennessee Vols men’s basketball junior forward Grant Williams was named SEC Co-Player of the Week for his performance in two games in the Preseason NIT against the Louisville Cardinals and Kansas Jayhawks. Williams shared the honor with Auburn guard Bryce Brown.

"Williams averaged 21 points, 8.5 rebounds and five assists against Louisville and No. 2 Kansas in the NIT Tip-Off. Williams led the Volunteers in scoring (24), rebounds (9) and blocks (3) during UT’s victory over Louisville. He totaled 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists bin UT’s overtime loss to No. 2 Kansas."

Erica Treiber named SEC Player of the Week – UTSports

Tennessee volleyball senior Erica Treiber was named the SEC Player of the Week and SEC Defensive Player of the Week for her role in helping the Lady Vols extend their winning streak to 11 matches. Treiber helped UT close out the regular season by beating the No. 13 Florida Gators and the Ole Miss Rebels.

"On Saturday against Ole Miss, Treiber recorded her first career double-double with 16 kills and 11 blocks. Her 11 blocks set a new career-high while nine block assists tied her career high.
