7. Jauan Jennings catches go-ahead touchdown vs. Auburn

We’re back to plays with magnitude. And this one had huge magnitude. Bryce Thompson’s interception gave Tennessee football some momentum against the Auburn Tigers. But Jauan Jennings had the play to put the Vols in control of the game.

Down 17-13 in the third quarter, UT was unable to run the ball. But they kept converting on third and long plays by letting their receivers win 50-50 balls against the Auburn defensive backs. That happened down the sideline on this drive in the second half.

By the way, it came a drive after they failed to convert a fourth and short. So that should’ve killed their momentum. It didn’t. As the Vols kept looking stopped, they kept finding a way to make a play. Then came this one.

On 3rd and 10 from the Auburn 25-yard line, Jarrett Guarantano threw it up again. Jennings was in one-on-one coverage, and he made a beautiful catch to come down with the ball to give the Vols their first lead in the game. It was also their first lead over an SEC or Power Five team since the Kentucky Wildcats in 2017, nearly a full year before.

So the Vols had a lot to celebrate at that point, and it gave them the confidence they needed. Up 20-17, they weren’t going to look back. This was the lead-changing play in arguably their biggest win in two years. Of course it’s going to make the list for 2018.
