Coming in the number two spot on our list was the 30-24 win against the Auburn Tigers. You could make the argument that this was the best win of the season. It was on the road against a top-25 at the time.

  • However, I don’t think Auburn was that good of a team. Sure the front seven was one of the best in the nation, but that was at the beginning of the year. The offense really found it’s footing until late October and November, even then, it wasn’t great.

But, the Vols got the win, and you can’t take that away from them. Jarrett Guarantano played arguably the best game of his career finishing with 328 passing yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Running back Ty Chandler also had a big game. He only rushed for 50 yards on 16 attempts, but he was a threat in the passing attack as well. Chandler added 62 yards on five receptions with a touchdown. Auburn fell in the three-game span where Chandler become the first running back in Tennessee football history to have a receiving touchdown in each game.

The win was huge because it was Tennessee’s first SEC win since the 2016 season. It was a magically weekend for Vol fans, but it doesn’t quite rank as high as the win against the Kentucky Wildcats.
