More updates on the Tennessee Vols offensive coordinator search and their basketball win over Memphis lead our Volunteers news for Monday, Dec. 17, 2018.

Happy Monday to the world. Bowl season has begun, without the Tennessee Vols, and Christmas is now a week away. But there is still a ton of news surrounding UT for us to get to, especially coming off a weekend.

As we get set to bring you our news on Rocky Top, men’s basketball and football lead the way. They are both continual stories, as we build off our coverage of a basketball game Saturday and also continue our coverage of a football search.

There’s also a record that another Vol set over the weekend which is worthy of some coverage, and we’ll get to that as well. But let’s lead with the football story since it provides the most newsworthy updates at this point.

Insider says Vols OC search not done – Dan Harralson, VolsWire

The Tennessee Vols offensive coordinator search is now in its fourth week, and there is still no name. To make matters worse, an unnamed insider has refuted the claims from last week that the deal is basically done and just waiting to name the guy. It appears that the real truth, according to the insider, is candidates backing out for one reason or another.

"On Sunday, the insider told Vols Wire that a hire “will likely wait until after the first signing day.”The insider also mentioned that “there is not one bit of truth to anything being 95 percent done” regarding the search and that “previous candidates within the search have backed out for one reason or another.”"

Rick Barnes critical of defense after Memphis – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

The Tennessee Vols men’s basketball team had a great win over the Memphis Tigers on Saturday, a rivalry that was restarted five years after Josh Pastner cancelled it. But in their 102-92 victory, Barnes still had some things to criticize. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“Well, I will say that we have a lot of room for growth. We were trying to work through foul trouble all day today, and I thought because of guys being in foul trouble, we were tentative and allowing plays we don’t normally allow.”"
