Tennessee football recruiting has a lot to focus on with this year’s early signing period. Here are the top five storylines surrounding the Volunteers.

The first splash Jeremy Pruitt made with Tennessee football after taking over in 2017 was a great early signing day. In fact, it may be sad to say that momentum has never been higher surrounding Pruitt since that period.

Last year, he was able to pick up junior college transfers Dominick Wood-Anderson and Jordan Allen in the early signing period along with two in-state four-star recruits in Jerome Carvin and Jeremy Banks and even a quarterback in JT Shrout. As we talk about the future of the program, all of those guys are integral pieces.

This year, things may be a bit more subdued. With 20 commitments, 16 are set to sign over the next two days. On top of that, Tennessee football is targeting other players who could make huge news for the Vols.

That makes for a crucial early signing period. Jeremy Pruitt may have missed a bowl game his first year with the Vols and still may not have an offensive coordinator to replace Tyson Helton. But he could still generate huge headlines over the next two days if things go right.

Pay attention to how everything shakes out. Last year, the early signing period kept the recruiting class afloat. It may be different this year with Pruitt having more time to focus on guys that will commit on National Signing Day. But it’s still a big deal. And it could have a huge role in what happens to Pruitt in the future.

This is still only the second year of the early signing period, so we don’t know what to make of its impact. We just know it changes a lot. So let’s take a look at things to pay attention to over the course of the rest of the week. They could shape the future of the Vols. These are the five biggest 2019 early signing period storylines for Tennessee football.
