Tennessee football 2019 three-star wide receiver Jerrod Means committed to the Volunteers on the first day of the Early Signing period and signed as well.

The first bit of unsuspecting news surrounding Tennessee football during the Early Signing Period centers around a three-star prospect from Georgia. Jerrod Means, a wide receiver out of Lovejoy, Ga., became the first player the Vols added to their class.

Rocky Top’s 21st commitment signed Wednesday morning, according to Jesse Simonton of VolQuest. Means, a 6’2″ 200-pound prospect out of Lovejoy High School, was initially committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels until last month. He is ranked the No. 119 player in the state of Georgia.

However, Tennessee football may have gotten a steal with this guy. He plays both sides of the ball, also lining up at strong safety, which shows that he can get physical as well. Those are the type of receivers the Vols have anyway, and they have proven to be a huge asset. You can view numerous highlights posted by him here.

As you can see from those highlights, Means is physical and has the ability to be a deep threat as well. Tennessee football could definitely use a guy like him in their rotation, and he became the second commitment for the Vols at receiver for their 2019 class.

Three-star receivers have worked out well on Rocky Top before. One of the most notable guys was Denarius Moore, who went on to have a modestly successful NFL career. So don’t discount the value Means might bring to the Vols.

Wide receiver isn’t a huge target for Pruitt and co. this year, but he did have a few guys in mind, most notably Mississippi State Bulldogs commitment Javonta Payton. Getting Means gives him a body and a guy to work with for the future, so this is indeed a good pickup.
