Tennessee football got a huge transfer from the Michigan Wolverines Friday. Former 2017 five-star defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon will join the Volunteers.

There is still a chance for a couple of splash pickups during the Early Signing Period, but Tennessee football got another major pickup in an unconventional way on Friday. Former 2017 five-star defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon is transferring from the Michigan Wolverines to the Vols.

Solomon, who stands at 6’3″ 287 pounds, was initially a prospect out of Lee County High School in Leesburg, Ga. Through two season in Ann Arbor playing for Jim Harbaugh, he was able to register 19 tackles and two tackles for a loss. He announced his transfer on Twitter.

Unfortunately for the Vols, this does them little good next year. Unless something changes, Solomon is likely to sit out in 2019. However, that should give him plenty of time to bulk up to be able to play nose guard in Jeremy Pruitt’s 3-4 scheme by the time 2020 comes around.

With the commitment of Eric Gray Thursday and the potential commitment of Quavaris Crouch coming Friday evening, this is actually shaping up to potentially be a very successful Early Signing Period for Rocky Top in different ways. However, more things have to take shape for us to affirm that reality.

Still, Jeremy Pruitt has found at least one more player to address the need at defensive line for the future, even if it doesn’t solve the problem for 2019. There is still plenty of time to get the guys he needs for that class as well, and with surprises like this one, he certainly is not done.

So pay attention to whatever magic Pruitt and his staff have left. Even without an offensive coordinator, they are scoring big in quite a few impressive ways. Considering this team was 4-8 and 5-7 in back to back years, it’s even more impressive. The only problem is the rest of the SEC is recruiting well also. But at least he got a guy from Harbaugh.
