Tennessee football recruiting scored its second big pickup in the Early Signing Period as four-star athlete Quavaris Crouch committed to the Volunteers.

Things couldn’t have gone better for Tennessee football in the final two days of the Early Signing Period. After a three-star decommitment and a surprise three-star commitment cancelling each other out Wednesday, the Vols picked up four-star in-state running back Eric Gray on Thursday. Then they got a five-star transfer from the Michigan Wolverines on Friday.

The big score, though, was Friday night, as four-star athlete Quavaris Crouch committed to and signed with the Vols. A four-star on Rivals, Crouch is a running back and a linebacker. He is ranked the No. 1 player in the state of North Carolina and the No. 3 overall athlete.

The 6’3″ 222-pound prospect chose Tennessee football over the Michigan Wolverines and the Clemson Tigers. With his commitment, Jeremy Pruitt has surprisingly stocked UT again for the future by using the Early Signing Period.

For a while, Clemson or Michigan seemed to always be the ahead of the Vols in the lead to Crouch. But Pruitt’s program made a late surge, and with his addition, his physical talent continues to get deeper and deeper.

Given the fact that Jeremy Banks, Ty Chandler, Tim Jordan and now Eric Gray are all in the lineup at running back, there’s good reason to believe that Crouch is going to play linebacker, especially with the departure of Quart’e Sapp. Given his eight career tackles for a loss, that shouldn’t be a problem. However, he is a deadly weapon at running back. Here’s a look at his highlight reel.

As you can see, Crouch has incredible breakaway speed, and he’s very physical. Add in the vision he shows, and it’s pretty clear that the guy is just a football player. He’s the type of prospect you could see Pruitt targeting.

It’s still hard to know exactly what the future holds for Tennessee football, and we never know how these guys will work out, but Pruitt scored big enough again in the Early Signing Period for Rocky Top to celebrate heading into 2019. Crouch was the biggest prize during this time, and him surprisingly publicly committing is huge for the program.
