Tennessee basketball: 4 reachable goals Vols should shoot for in 2019
No.4 – Kyle Alexander gets drafted
Kyle Alexander is more than a tall body to plug up the lane. He is more than just another player on a good team. Sure, he isn’t as flashy as Jordan Bone, he isn’t as clutch as Admiral Schofield, and he doesn’t pile on the points like Grant Williams. But, Tennessee wouldn’t be the same team without him.
Remember the Loyola-Chicago game? Of course, you do. Alexander wasn’t available for the game due to an injury, and it prevented the Vols from winning the game. An undersized Ramblers team outrebounded Tennessee 27-24. And, Loyola shot 50 percent from the field.
The Vols only accounted for two blocks in the game which was unusual since Alexander averaged around two per game himself. Just the game before against Wright State, the Vols accounted for six blocks.
Can Alexander get drafted? Sure, he could, but odds are he won’t unless he turns it on for the second half of the season. The problem is, the Vols don’t really need much more from the big man for the team to be successful.
Even with that said, Alexander wouldn’t be a bad gamble for NBA teams. He offers great size and is turning into a consistent rim protector who can knock down free throws. Don’t be surprised if Alexander lands somewhere late second-round.
