Joe Osovet’s name came up in early December, and a look at his track record shows that he would actually be an interesting choice. Tennessee football hired Osovet as a quality control coach in the summer, and it followed a successful tenure as a junior college head coach.

His two season before arriving in Knoxville, Osovet was at ASA (N.Y.) College, and although his record there was only 13-7, his offenses were incredible. In 2017, his team averaged 41.9 points per game. He also won NEFC Coach of the Year in 2017.

Before that, he led Nassau Community College to the NEFC Championship with a 10-0 record in 2014, his first full year as head coach, and he won JuCo Coach of the Year that season. That was his first full year as head coach. Overall, he is 33-11 as a JuCo head coach, and his offenses always seemed to get better in December.

So one look at his record shows Osovet has a track record of winning and putting up lots of points. That’s a big deal, and it could be a huge plus for the Vols. Don’t count out Jeremy Pruitt making this move either. Osovet put up gigantic offensive numbers in JuCo, and scaled to this level, the results could be the same. There’s no reason to believe that he can’t do it on Rocky Top.
