No.3 – Will there be a quarterback battle this offseason?

Last season there was a quarterback battle according to Jeremy Pruitt anyways. However, we all know there truly wasn’t much of one, Jarrett Guarantano was hands down the better option.

However, there wasn’t much either guy could accomplish due to the horrible offensive line play Tennessee had to struggle through all season. Not even the best quarterback in the world, Peyton Manning, could have looked competent passing behind that offensive line.

There are two things at play when talking about the potential quarterback controversy for the 2019 Tennessee football team.

Last year’s starter, Jarrett Guarantano, is on pace to graduate in May. He could, in theory, decide to transfer from the program to play as a graduate transfer somewhere else.

Although that seems about as realistic as Lane Kiffin getting hired as the offensive coordinator, I suppose there is a chance. We still don’t know if Guarantano is Pruitt’s guy. He didn’t recruit him which goes a long way when the play on the field isn’t great.

Which leads us perfectly to our next point, maybe Guarantano won’t be the best option next season.

Before you guys blast me for “hating” on him, let me tell you I was probably the biggest Guarantano advocate last season. I always argued he was the best guy for the job and improved immensely throughout the year.

However, maybe J.T. Shrout and Brian Maurer are better options for the new offensive scheme.

Guarantano does have college playing experience which is something neither Shrout and Maurer have. It will be one of the most captivating stories in 2019.
