No.2 – Jeremy Pruitt’s second year

Is Jeremy Pruitt the guy that can get the Tennessee football back on top of the college football world?

Will 2019 be the year the Vols aren’t the laughing stock of the SEC?

The second year of a head coaching tenure is where a program sees a lot of improvement. Taking a look back at history, a lot of all-time great head coaches had outstanding second year’s.

Former head coach of Oklahoma, Bob Stoops, led the Sooners to a 7-5 record in 1999. He followed his debut season with a 13-0 record with Big 12 and National titles to show for it.

Look at Nick Saban, his first year in Baton Rouge the Tigers went 8-4. His second year they improved to 10-3 overall and won an SEC Championship. At Alabama, he won five more games in year two.

It’s hard to compare the situations to Tennessee’s dumpster fire, but Pruitt has an opportunity to improve next season.

The schedule isn’t as unfavorable as it has been recently and the defense should be much improved. Dare I say a top ten defense in the nation?

I don’t have a prediction for next season, but it wouldn’t shock me if somehow the Vols pulled out eight wins.
