Tennessee football had four players compete in the 2019 wild card round of the NFL Playoffs. Here is a look at how those Volunteers performed.

When the NFL Playoffs began, Tennessee football had 12 former players on rosters of teams that had made the postseason. However, Derek Barnett of the Philadelphia Eagles was out for a season-ending injury, and Alex Ellis and Kahlil McKenzie are both injured reserve players.

That made for nine former Vols who could have an impact in the playoffs, and four of them were playing on three different teams in the Wild Card round. Well, it ended up being a pretty bad weekend for them.

All four Tennessee football players saw their teams lose in the Wild Card round, trimming the list of former Vols in the NFL Playoffs with a chance to make an impact down to five. However, none of them are really at fault for what happened.

In fact, only two of them had any sort of role in their teams’ struggles. Anyway, just as we ranked the Vols heading into the playoffs, we’re going to rank former Vols each week by how they played in each round.

So this past weekend, we’re going to rank how the four players did in the Wild Card round. Our ranking is not based on whether or not their team won but what their role was in helping their team. And given that they all lost, that was easy to differentiate here.

After the rankings end, we’ll move onto next week and look ahead to those games. It’s worth noting that Tennessee football will have a former player in every game this week. However, only one team in each game will have a former Vol. That makes it possible for nobody to advance, but it also opens the possibility to all conference championship games having a former Vol.

Oh, and we should point out that every former Vol is playing at home this weekend. But before we get to that, let’s look back at this past weekend. These are how the four Tennessee football players in the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs each performed.
