Tennessee football’s new offensive coordinator Jim Chaney has some talent to work with. Here are five Volunteers most likely to benefit from the hire.
After a month and a half, Tennessee football has found its offensive coordinator. And the hire is a blast from the past in Jim Chaney. With this hire, Jeremy Pruitt made a surprise splash by sticking with the pro-style offense but getting a guy away from the Georgia Bulldogs.
Chaney was with the Vols from 2009 to 2013 under Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley. In his return under Pruitt, he is establishing a bit of continuity. Sure, parts of his system are different from Tyson Helton’s, but at least, as we said, it’s a pro-style.
That makes the transition much easier for the players, who don’t have to learn a completely new system for a third straight year. However, there will likely be some changes to what Chaney likes to do.
Whether or not that benefits Tennessee football as a whole remains to be seen. What’s clear, though, is Chaney adapts to his personnel. You can look at his offenses dating back to his return to college in 2009, with the Vols, and there is not much of a recurring trend.
Still, specific types of players do benefit under Chaney, and the Vols just happen to have guys like that. As a result, we’re going to take a look at them here. These are individuals who should be thrilled with Chaney’s arrival.
One thing benefitting the Vols is they have a variety of personnel. Chaney likes to utilize different types of weapons to keep offenses off-guard. Rather than sticking to a system, which hurts these guys, Chaney will use what he has.
So who are these guys we are talking about? What does Chaney bring to the table that will change things up? How will it affect the stars on the team? Take a look here. These are the five Vols most likely to benefit from Tennessee football hiring Jim Chaney.
