The Tennessee Lady Vols host the Kentucky Wildcats Thursday night. Here is our official preview for the women’s basketball Volunteers.

Looking to rebound from a heartbreaking home loss to the Missouri Tigers at home last Sunday, the No. 13 ranked Tennessee Lady Vols have another big test Thursday night. At 12-2 overall and 1-1 in the SEC, Holly Warlick’s team will host the No. 16 ranked Kentucky Wildcats.

Kentucky comes in at 14-2 and 1-1 in the SEC as well after losing on the road to the Mississippi State Bulldogs this past Sunday. So this is a huge test for both teams, and it will really help determine where they stand early in the conference season.

Both of Tennessee’s losses this year are to quality teams at home, while both of Kentucky’s losses are to quality teams on the road. In fact, UT has no quality home wins, and UK has no quality road wins. So something’s got to give in this one. Here is all the information you need for the game.

No. 16 Kentucky Wildcats at No. 13 Tennessee Lady Volunteers

When: Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. E.T.

Where: Thompson-Boling Arena;  Knoxville, Tenn.

TV: SEC Network

Live Stream: WatchESPN

The Tennessee Lady Vols are No. 25, and Kentucky is No. 27 in the RPI. Neither team has beaten a team currently in the Top 25 of both the RPI and the rankings, although Kentucky did beat the UCLA Bruins, who are in the Top 30 of the RPI, and Tennessee did beat the Texas Longhorns, who are in the Top 15 of both polls.

With all of those facts, Thursday will be the biggest win of the season for the victor, whomever that may be. That’s especially true for Tennessee, who plays three straight nothing-to-lose but everything-to-gain games after that against the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide on the road and then the Arkansas Razorbacks at home. Their next chance at a real quality win is when they host the top-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Jan. 24.

Kentucky follows this up with the Ole Miss Rebels at home, but then they have other chances at quality wins when they face the LSU Tigers on the road, Missouri Tigers at home, Texas A&M Aggies on the road and South Carolina Gamecocks at home. Still, they’re going to want to get this win because of the statement it’ll make.
