Tennessee basketball week in review: Vols good enough for No.1 ranking?
Tennessee basketball continues to their impressive winning streak taking care of Arkansas and Alabama. Here is a week in review.
Every win continues an impressive winning streak for Rick Barnes and the Tennessee basketball team. The streak moves to 12 wins in a row with the win against Alabama. The last time the program had a winning streak as long came during the 1976-77 campaign when the Ernie and Bernie show was taking the nation by storm.
This year’s team has the opportunity to one-up the 1976-77 squad that finished the season with an overall record of 22-6 when they take the court against the Vanderbilt Commodores on Wednesday night in Nashville.
It’s worth repeating; this 12-game winning streak dates back before Thanksgiving when the Vols lost in overtime to the Kansas Jayhawks. You could always make the argument that they could have lost a few games such as Gonzaga, Florida, and Alabama. However, Tennessee could just as easily be sitting at 17-0 on the season.
In this post, we are going to breakdown a few highlights from a week that included a 106-87 win against Arkansas and a tightly contested three-point win against Alabama this past Saturday. We will also take a look at the two upcoming games against Vanderbilt and West Virginia in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
