The Tennessee Vols had a ton of things happen in the first month of 2019. Even with no football postseason games, here are the top 10 Volunteers stories.

January is always an interesting time for the Tennessee Vols. With football season ending but the NFL Playoffs and National Signing Day a month away, there’s still huge news on that front. Add in the heart of basketball season beginning, and it brings in a lot of coverage. So with the month coming to an end, it’s time to look back at the headlines set to shape the rest of the year.

This year on Rocky Top, Tennessee football had a few more crazy stories than usual. It made for a very eventful month despite the fact that the Vols had no postseason game to play in or final rankings to think about this year.

Meanwhile, Tennessee basketball has been a story of historic positivity the entire time, although the Tennessee Lady Vols have been a story of complete negativity. What time period are we in with football being uncertain, women’s basketball being completely negative and men’s basketball generating the best news in Knoxville?

Well, there are plenty of reasons for that. But all of these sports have things to discuss. One month in, some of the questions we asked to start the year have already been answered. And others could be answered very soon.

In many cases, though, unexpected headlines took shape. As we get set to look at the biggest stories from January on the last day of the month, you’ll notice many of those. And, by the way, things are not about to lighten up in February.

The Super Bowl is Sunday, National Signing Day is next week, and basketball still brings a ton of focus. That’s why storylines in January are always a big deal. They shape how the rest of the year is going to go.

So let’s take a look at what happened on Rocky Top with UT athletics. Here, we’ll be looking at the biggest things that were probably on Phillip Fulmer’s mind the past month. These are the top 10 stories from January for the Tennessee Vols entering the year 2019.
