Tennessee football will have a former player win the Super Bowl for the 10th straight year on Sunday. Here are the top 10 Volunteers champions in this run.

At the end of the 2008 season, Tennessee football didn’t just end an era by letting go of Phillip Fulmer. That curse was magnified by them not having a former player on one of the teams playing in the Super Bowl between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals.

However, since then, they haven’t just had a former player in the Super Bowl every year. They’ve had a former player win a Super Bowl championship. In the last nine years, 15 former Vols took home Super Bowl rings.

Now, once again, there will be a former Vol taking home a Super Bowl ring this year, as one is on each team. John Kelly is a backup running back for the Los Angeles Rams, and Cordarrelle Patterson is a wide receiver for the New England Patriots.

Of the two, Patterson is likely to be the one to see more action in the game. Kelly has been extremely limited these playoffs behind CJ Anderson and Todd Gurley, who is now fully healthy. But what about the previous Super Bowl Champions?

Many of those former Tennessee football players had a huge helping hand in their teams winning a Super Bowl ring. Quite a few had great performances without winning a championship, but given the fact that the Vols have been producing champions, it seems worth it to mention those guys in this post.

So we’re going to do that. With this being the 10th year that a former Vol will win a Super Bowl, we decided to look back and rank the Top 10 performers among former UT Super Bowl champions over the last nine years. Remember, this is not a ranking of the players themselves. This is a ranking of their contribution to their team winning a championship.

And yes, we take it back to the 2009-2010 championship the New Orleans Saints one, which started this streak. Rocky Top has been a Super Bowl haven this decade, even as the wins on the field for the program haven’t accumulated.

With the streak alive, let’s go ahead and look back at some of these winning Super Bowl performances. These are the top 10 Super Bowl winning performances by former Tennessee football players over the past nine years.
