Chris Russell was our first inside linebacker on the list with the decommitment of Lakia Henry. But the departure of Quart’e Sapp and the fact that Darrin Kirkland Jr. and Daniel Bituli are seniors leaves a need for multiple inside linebackers in the future. Right now, Quavaris Crouch is the only commitment who could play the position in this class.
Henry To’oto’o, however, would be the best pickup there. He is a pure inside linebacker. A four-star on Rivals, the 6’2″ 210-pound athlete out of De La Salle High School in Northern California would be a major get for the Vols.
Right now, Jeremy Pruitt is fighting hard with the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Cal Golden Bears, the Oregon Ducks and the Washington Huskies. However, right now, Alabama appears to be the favorite with Washington in second place.
Pruitt needs to work whatever magic he can to get this guy to Knoxville. Will Ignont, JJ Peterson and Shanon Reid have just not proven enough at the position to rely on them for 2020 and beyond. Even with Crouch, the Vols need more.
Adding Russell would be a solid backup plan. But To’oto’o is the top guy they want to target, as he is just too good to pass up. If you want to know his versatility, just look at his offensive skills as well. The guy averaged nine yards a carry through nine games as a running back and completed 4-of-5 passes in 2017 for 59 yards. So he’s an all-around athlete who specializes at linebacker.
