The decommitment of Lakia Henry made Chris Russell a legitimate target for Tennessee football, and this is the first player Jeremy Pruitt should have a sense of urgency about. The Vols are simply too thin right now at inside linebacker.

Meanwhile, Chris Russell is drawing interests from schools all over the SEC. Initially committed to the Memphis Tigers, the West Tennessee prospect reopened his commitment as he began to blossom into a star this past season.

As such a late bloomer, he could eventually turn into a four-star caliber player, which is why he could be a steal for the Vols. Right now, the favorite to land him appears to be the Arkansas Razorbacks, and the Texas A&M Aggies are making a huge push for him as well.

But much of that is based on the long-term recruiting done on him. The Vols didn’t really get into the game until late, so they have a lot of ground to make up. Maybe they’ll make it all up by Wednesday. If they don’t Pruitt will lose out on a very crucial prospect to build his depth on defense. The loss of Henry was bad enough. This wouldn’t be a killer, but it would hurt considering Russell is an in-state guy.
