Tennessee basketball: Nothing new, Vols still No.1 seed in latest bracketology
The high praise continues as Tennessee basketball grabs a couple of one seeds in the latest bracketology from ESPN and CBS.
All this Tennessee basketball team does is win.
Since the last bracketology update, the Vols won two more games which extended their winning streak to 16 games. The win against the Aggies broke a 100-year-old record that was sit back during the 1915-17 seasons.
Tennessee has the opportunity to extend the winning streak with three straight home games against Missouri, Florida, and South Carolina. Winning all three will give them a 19 game winning streak when they travel to Rupp Arena for what should be a top-five matchup against Kentucky.
As always we want to keep you up to date with all the latest bracketology, and we begin with ESPN’s Joe Lunardi’s projections which were updated February 5, 2019. You can find the entire bracket projection here.
Joe Lunardi
There is a change in the top lines of Lunardi’s bracket this week. Michigan State grabbed a one seed last week, but after dropping back-to-back games to Purdue and Indiana, Lunardi has replaced them with the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Rounding out the other three top seeds are Duke, Virginia, and of course, Tennessee.
Here is a closer look at the Midwest bracket.
1. Tennessee – 16. Norfolk State/Robert Morris
8. Syracuse – 9. TCU
5. Wisconsin – 12. Hofstra
4. Virginia Tech – 13. Vermont
6. Mississippi State – 11. Indiana
3. Kansas – 14. Bowling Green
7. Cincinnati – 10. Arizona State
2. North Carolina – 15. Radford
Lunardi has a total of eight SEC schools receiving bids, one more than last week. The Florida Gators are the newest addition from the SEC after their win over Ole Miss.
CBS Sport’s Jerry Palm’s latest update was February 3, 2019. You can find the entire bracket projection here.
Jerry Palm
Palm has the same top-four as Lunardi. Gonzaga is receiving a ton of love after Michigan and Michigan State have lost games this past week.
Tennessee gets the nod as the top seed in the South region. Here is a closer look at that bracket.
1. Tennessee – 16. Norfolk State/Robert Morris
8. Syracuse – 9. St. John’s
5. Iowa – 12. Belmont
4. Texas Tech – 13. Georgia State
6. Kansas State – 11. Temple
3. Virginia Tech – 14. Bowling Green
7. Buffalo – 10. Wofford
2. Michigan State – 15. Loyola-Chicago
Along with the Vols, Palm has six other SEC schools receiving a bid which include Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Kentucky.
There isn’t a lot that is going to change unless Tennessee losses to Missouri and maybe South Carolina. For now, the Vols are a solid one seed and the best team in the nation.
