Tennessee football: Vols top 5 needs to fill National Signing Day 2019
Tennessee football has a lot of glaring recruiting needs for 2019. Here are five the Volunteers need to fill on National Signing Day.
After a 5-7 season and six losses by 25 or more points, it’s clear that Tennessee football has a ton of work to do to build up its program. Jeremy Pruitt may not get a Top 10 class like he would want for National Signing Day, but right now he’s got to shore up glaring weaknesses.
Throughout last year, there were clear issues facing the program. The change in system, lack of health and, quite honestly, lack of dedication and talent from some players was a major problem throughout the year.
This recruiting class is all about improving those major issues, not as much building a national title contender or anything close to it yet. As a result, with Tennessee football set to close out its first full recruiting class under Pruitt, there are specific areas that they need to finish strong in.
In this post, we’re going to rank those positions of need. The post takes multiple things into account. It includes the production level of the position last year, the number of commitments already in the class and the returning personnel for 2019 and beyond.
You would assume that the Vols won’t sign anymore than five new players on Signing Day with the bulk of the work being done in the Early Signing Period. Right now, they have 21 commitments and 19 signees.
With those two players still needing to be signed and numerous other top targets, signing five players would actually make for a good day. It’s more likely they sign four players, which includes two new commitments.
Anyway, let’s go ahead and look at where the Vols need to put the bulk of their focus to close out their 2019 recruiting class. These are the five biggest position needs for Tennessee football heading into National Signing Day 2019.
