Tennessee football recruiting: Kenney Solomon picks Vols on National Signing day
Tennessee football recruiting added its second defensive player of Signing Day 2019 when three-star cornerback Kenney Solomon chose the Volunteers.
Shortly after Jeremy Pruitt got the steal of the day with four-star commitment Henry To’oto’o, he was able to add another player to Tennessee football’s recruiting class. The Vols added cornerback Kenney Solomon out of South Carolina.
A three-star on Rivals, Solomon comes out of Socastee High School in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The 6’0″ 170-pound cornerback joins a loaded defensive backs class for Pruitt, something that was clearly a priority for him.
Solomon chose the Vols over a few other Power Five schools, including the Louisville Cardinals, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the Colorado Buffaloes. A late bloomer, though, Pruitt may have found a huge steal in him. Here is a look at his highlight reel.
As you can see, Solomon has incredible speed, which could make him great at recovering on plays and will also make him a valuable special teams player if the Tennessee football coaches wish to use him there. Yes, he jumps routes a lot, but a defensive backs expert like Pruitt could work with him on that.
Solomon was the 22nd commitment in the Vols’ recruiting class and the 21st to sign. He was also the sixth commitment who could potentially play defensive back and fifth to sign, and he was the third cornerback to sign, joining Tyus Fields and Warren Burrell.
With Bryce Thompson and Alontae Taylor already in the rotation, Pruitt has stacked the cornerbacks for the future, and that’s a big deal. Solomon is the lowest rated of all of them, but he may actually have the most potential give his athletic ability.
Simply put, Tennessee football got another great commitment to add to this solid recruiting class, and by joining Henry To’oto’o, Pruitt has made sure the Vols are in good shape on the back seven. This was a huge get for them.
