Tennessee football: 5 takeaways from Vols’ National Signing Day 2019
2. Brian Niedermeyer single-handedly delivered for the Vols.
Tennessee football’s National Signing Day splash is due to its tight ends coach. They say you hire tight ends coaches just for recruiting purposes, and Brian Niedermeyer seemed to show that for the Vols after this recruiting class.

Pretty much all of the Vols’ top recruits had Niedermeyer as their primary recruiter. That includes five-star offensive lineman Darnell Wright and four-star linebacker Henry To’oto’o, the top players in the class and the main signees on National Signing Day. It’s worth noting that he signed three-star Kenney Solomon as well, so everybody who signed on Signing Day was a Niedermeyer target.
Niedermeyer also signed Quavaris Crouch, a four-star athlete who was the No. 1 rated player in the nation before an injury in 2018. And he signed Tyus Fields and Savion Williams along with three-star Jackson Lowe.
So Niedermeyer got the three biggest splash players, all three players on Signing Day and five four or five-star players overall. He was a superstar recruiter for Tennessee football and deserves his own slide for his National Signing Day performance.
Because of his efforts, the 247Sports Composite Rankings listed Niedermeyer as the recruiter of the year, just edging out Drew Mehringer of the Texas Longhorns and also beating Tosh Lupoi of the Alabama Crimson Tide.
So while Tennessee football has a head coach known for recruiting, hired a running backs coach in Chris Weinke specifically to recruit and brought Tee Martin home for his recruiting, Brian Niedermeyer was the star of the class. He was also the star of National Signing Day, which is why we put his accomplishments so high on our list of takeaways.
