4. Anthony Harris stays committed but doesn’t sign.

It’s a bittersweet moment. There was a chance Tennessee football could lose out on three-star safety Anthony Harris. He was committed to the Vols, but the Havelock, N.C. prospect was being recruited by his home state school, the North Carolina Tar Heels.

With Mack Brown back there, the threat of Harris flipping was real, and the Vols desperately need some depth in their secondary. However, he didn’t and instead he remained committed to Rocky Top. There’s just one problem.

Harris didn’t actually sign on National Signing Day. He has some academic issues he needs to clean up before summer camp, and yes, that can be problematic for Jeremy Pruitt and his staff in the long run.

Last year, the Vols needed some help and depth at inside linebacker, and JJ Peterson was one of their top recruits. But he couldn’t join the program until after the season started because of such issues, so he never picked up the system in time to see any significant action. It’s a big deal when guys don’t arrive in the summer in time. If not, you could see some issues in the future.
