Lakia Henry and Cameron Wynn signing elsewhere were painful for Tennessee football. But those were both expected since they had already decommitted from the Vols months, and in some cases years before.

  • The story is a bit different with LeDarrius Cox. A three-star defensive tackle out of McGill Toolen High School in Mobile, Ala., Cox was to fill a huge need for Jeremy Pruitt with all of his defensive line leaving. He along with Savion Williams and Darel Middleton would bring depth to that position.

However, signs began to grow that Cox would decommit and flip to the Auburn Tigers on National Signing Day. It almost became expected that he would do that, but when the day came, he didn’t flip to Auburn.

Instead, in a disappointment similar to George Pickens, he flipped to the Ole Miss Rebels. So the Vols were let down twice in flips that took place on National Signing Day, neither of which benefitted them.

Standing at 6’4″ 310 pounds, Cox was in prime position to make an immediate impact in terms of necessary depth on the line, which cost the Vols down the stretch of games throughout last year’s SEC season. That’s why his decommitment hurts.

The Vols may still have enough help now on the line to get by without him. But he would have been a huge addition, no pun intended, and losing a commitment to another SEC school on National Signing Day is something that always counts as going wrong.
