Last week Tobias Harris was the VFL making noise in the NBA, this week it’s Josh Richardson. The former Tennessee basketball player scored a career-high 37 points on Sunday night.

Former Vols basketball player, Tobias Harris was apart of a trade that sent him to Philadelphia to be apart of a “Big 4.” Since the trade, Harris has scored a combined 36 points on 15-for-26 (57.6%) from the floor, including 5-for-8 (62.5%) from the three-point line in back-to-back wins.

But, most recently it was Josh Richardson’s taking his turn in the spotlight. It was only a matter of time, to be honest. Known as an elite defender from his days at Tennessee, Richardson has always had a scoring mindset that has only developed and become more lethal in the NBA.

Sunday night Richardson’s offensive talent was on full display as his Miami Heat traveled to Golden State to take on a Warriors squad that was winners of the last 14-of-15 games.

In a 120-118 loss, Richardson scored a career-high 37 points on 14-for-22, including 8-for-11 from the three-point line. He went toe-to-toe with the splash brothers, connecting on eight made shots from deep which was also a career-high in his four-year career.

The Heat aren’t having the best of seasons sitting at 25-29, but believe it or not; they are in second place n the Southeast division, and ninth in the Western Conference playoff hunt. A big part of Miami staying in the playoff mix is the career-year from Richardson.

He’s averaging a career-high 17.8 points per game while shooting 41.6 percent from the floor, including a team-high 38.5 percent from the three-point line. He’s also averaging a career-high from the free throw line at 86.6 percent while attempting over two more per game.

Next. Despite giving up more points, Vols defense hasn’t dropped off. dark

The Heat aren’t a threat to win an NBA Championship but thanks to Richardson, they may have a shot at the playoffs. Don’t be surprised if you see more games where the former Vol takes over and goes toe-to-toe with the best in the league. Richardson and the Heat will be back in action on Monday night in Denver against the Nuggets.
