4. Number of early enrollees: 10

By position

Defensive backs: 3

Offensive linemen: 2

Athletes: 1

Quarterback: 1

Running backs: 1

Tight ends: 1

Wide receivers: 1

In addition to the two junior college players, neither of whom are early enrollees, Tennessee football has 10 early enrollees. And here’s the key for this: Wanya Morris and Chris Akporoghene, two of the four-star offensive line commitments, are among those early enrollees. O-line is where the Vols need immediate help, so Jeremy Pruitt and Jim Chaney will do really well to have those guys.

Another key addition among the early enrollees is three-star quarterback Brian Maurer. It’s always important to have your quarterbacks there in the spring to be able to have the impact they want to have, and Maurer could immediately compete with JT Shrout for that No. 2 spot at quarterback.

Four-star defensive backs Jaylen McCullough, Warren Burrell and Tyus Fields allow for competition in the secondary this spring, which is huge with safeties Micah Abernathy and Todd Kelly Jr. both leaving and with there being a huge opening for depth at cornerback.

The same is true at linebacker, which is why four-star athlete Quavaris Crouch being an early enrollee is a major benefit. He’s an athlete, but linebacker is where he’ll be most needed given the fact that Darrin Kirkland Jr. and Daniel Bituli are both going to be gone after this year.

Finally, three-star tight end Jackson Lowe, four-star running back Eric Gray and four-star wide receiver Ramel Keyton are all major additions, but it’s not likely they needed to be early enrollees. They’ll all be solid depth guys who figure to make a huge impact in 2020.
