Looking ahead

It doesn’t get any easier this week.

Tennessee does head back to Rocky Top to take on the winless Vanderbilt Commodores in league play. Then comes a meeting with the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge.

Vanderbilt is 0-12 in league play. However, they have been relatively competitive. The Commodores have only lost four conference games by more than ten points.

The last time the two teams met was back in January. Remember the Vols had just received the number one ranking heading into Nashville where Vandy made them work for every basket.

The game ended up going into overtime where Tennessee eventually pulled away thanks to Grant Williams who scored a career-high 43 points. Williams also had a perfect night going 23-for-23 from the charity stripe.

After the in-state matchup on Tuesday night, the Vols travel to Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers. We’ve mentioned LSU a few times in this article, but this will be a tough test for Tennessee, especially on the road.

LSU are winners of 14 of their last 15 games and only have four losses on the season by a combined 13 points. The Tigers could make the argument they should be undefeated on the season, or at the most a one-loss team.

If Tennessee can survive this week with a 2-0 record, they should still be in the hunt for a number one seed come NCAA Tournament time.
